Businesses to benefit from new $190M jail

Lower Buckeye JailA new jail will replace the county’s Durango jail, which opened in 1976 and has housed between 1,700 and 2,200 inmates.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is scheduled to build the $190 million jail near 35th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.

The project creates construction and engineering contract opportunities for a number of business and vendors.

The county has six jail facilities.
