Mesa light rail born 7 months premature

The first extension of Valley Metro’s light rail system, into downtown Mesa, is on track to open seven months earlier than planned.

A celebration is planned for the morning of Aug. 22 when the line will officially begin operating. Testing is already underway along the new route.

The central Mesa extension runs from the current end of the line at Sycamore Drive to Mesa Drive with stops at Alma School Road, Country Club Drive, Center Street and Mesa Drive. A park and ride lot is at the northeast corner of the Mesa Drive stop.
