‘Sandal Scandal:’ 200 flip-flops delivered to APS to protest solar fees

Protesters dropped off 200 flip-flops at Arizona Public Service Co. on Friday in what they’re dubbing the “Sandal Scandal.”

Solar proponents are upset that APS “flip-flopped” on a promise to hold a full rate case before potentially increasing solar fees. APS requested an increase in solar fees from $5 to $21 a month, on average, in April. The increase would not affect customers who already have installed solar.

APS officials have said that they only are seeking a moderate adjustment to a $5 fee approved in 2013, and that larger changes to rates will be addressed in next year’s rate case.
