State must pay fees in domestic partners lawsuit

A decision by former Gov. Jan Brewer and the Legislature to deny state benefits to domestic partners will cost the state more than $300,000 in legal fees.

U.S. District Court Judge John Sedwick on Friday ordered the state to pay $305,049.95 in legal fees and an additional $1,936.67 in costs associated with the Diaz vs. Brewer case.

This comes on top of $55,140 that the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered the state to pay in legal fees earlier this year.
