Tucson Electric Power withdrew its application to change net metering rules Friday, saying instead the company will address the issue in its upcoming rate case.
TEP originally asked the Arizona Corporation Commission to allow the utility to pay solar customers less for excess energy generated by solar panels, dropping the rate from 13 cents per kilowatt-hour down to 5.8 cents, the rate it pays for wholesale energy from large-scale solar operations.
The move would have dropped savings for solar customers by 22 percent on average, TEP estimated.
