The New York Times on Thursday said heartbreak is mostly the norm in Phoenix, where there’s a sports “curse.”

Yes, losing is heartbreaking.

And “Charles Barkley could never overcome Michel Jordan,” said the arrogant Big Apple newspaper.

True, along with every other basketball player in the Jordan years.

Speaking of the NBA, how ‘bout those New York Knicks?

The paper didn’t pick on the Arizona Coyotes, probably because the city’s Rangers choked their chicken in the NHL playoffs, losing to a team from that home of hockey — Tampa Bay.

Let’s put things in perspective. Winning is the goal, but there are few winners. This leaves most sports markets to rest on their laurels and fond memories.

The Times knocks the Arizona Cardinals for losing the 2009 Super Bowl in the last minute of the game. How many teams have never made the Super Bowl. Look it up.

How about the memory of the Suns’ triple-overtime loss to the Celtics in the 1976 NBA finals, which has been called both the greatest and wildest finals game ever. I remember Phoenicians turning out by the thousands downtown for a parade honoring the Suns.

Here’s the capper for me. Our hearts were lifted from the horror of 9/11 when the Diamondbacks won the World Series in 2001. How many teams have won the World Series?

By the way, we beat the Yankees from New York.

Remember, there’s always a new season ahead.
