Arizona workers would have to earn roughly double the state’s current minimum wage in order to rent a two-bedroom place to live, according to a study from the National Low Income Housing Coalition.
Arizona’s current minimum wage is $8.05 per hour. In order to afford that two-bedroom apartment, a worker would either have to make $16.87 an hour or work 67 hours to afford the market rent on $877 per month apartment.
The report found Arizona ranked No. 22 for how much workers had to be paid to afford rent. Hawaii was the highest, followed by Washington D.C. and California. Hawaii workers needed more than $31 an hour to make the rent.
