The transparency of the proceedings of a regional coalition overseeing the Upper Verde River Watershed came into question this past week.
Prior to the Prescott City Council’s Tuesday, June 9, approval of a $52,000 payment for the city’s participation in the Upper Verde River Watershed Protection Coalition (VRWPC), a local water advocate maintained that the coalition’s meetings have been less than accessible to the public.
Leslie Hoy of the Citizens Water Advocacy Group pointed out that although the advocacy organization is “ready and willing” to help to secure more water for the area’s future, its members have had a challenging time following the workings of the coalition.
“It is difficult to do so when key meetings that should be open and advertised to the public and press are not,” Hoy told the council.
