In January, Western Maricopa Education Center, more commonly known as West-MEC, purchased 19 acres for a campus in Surprise on a diagonal alignment alongside Grand Avenue stretching southeast of Surprise Marketplace all the way to Dysart Road.
West-MEC Superintendent Greg Donovan said the group, focused on career and technical education programs for high school students and adults, is early in the planning stages and will begin design in the fall. Right now, he said, the timeline is to begin construction midway through 2016 in order to open programs to students in August 2017.
