State Rep. Bob Thorpe (R) is one of a growing number of Arizona lawmakers preparing to send letters to federal lawmakers opposing designating the Grand Canyon Watershed as a national monument.
Advocates for the monument want the watershed designated as a national monument through the Antiquities Act, which allows presidential designation of lands for national monuments.
Thorpe believes this is a misuse of the Antiquities Act and a breach of contract between the state and the federal governments and a violation of the law.
