Former mayor clarifies support of neighborhood in Wright House discussion

Four former mayors of Phoenix co-authored an article that recently appeared in the Arizona Republic, was mailed to the residents of the Arcadia neighborhood, and was referenced in the Phoenix Business Journal. While I can’t speak for my fellow mayors, I felt it appropriate to provide what I intended by lending my name to the article.

It was never my intent nor does the article state anywhere that I was in support of a plan that would bring inappropriate uses, noise levels and traffic to the site and the neighborhood. In fact, the article itself states that the owners will provide “clarification of the hours of operation, the types and number of events, the size of improvements and asked to further define acceptable uses of the property.”

Unfortunately, the article that recently appeared in the Phoenix Business Journal suggested that I disagreed with those in the neighborhood who are worried about traffic and noise and support all aspects of the owner’s plans. This neither was nor is the case.
