Phoenix to extend Chandler Blvd.

The City of Phoenix hopes to start construction to extend Chandler Boulevard between 19th and 27th avenues in May of 2016. Actual timelines for the $7-9M project, however, will depend on the outcomes of various components in a multi-party lawsuit (AZBEX, July 7) to prevent construction of the 22-mile Loop 202 extension between Phoenix and Chandler.

According to Kini Knudson, Phoenix Street Transportation Department assistant director and city engineer, Chandler Blvd. must be extended prior to freeway construction in the area. Last month Phoenix City Council granted approval to pursue right of way considerations from the Arizona State Land Department on four state land parcels needed for drainage as part of the project.
