Recent criticism by state Treasurer Jeff DeWit appears to have done little to dampen Republican enthusiasm for Gov. Doug Ducey’s proposal to increase state land trust payments to K-12 schools.
DeWit’s unexpectedly vocal opposition disturbed what had appeared to be tranquil waters in GOP legislative circles, where Ducey’s plan received widespread acclaim after he unveiled it in early June. Ducey’s fellow Republican, who took over the treasurer’s job he vacated when he became governor, provided ammunition and political cover for critics.
