Want APS out of elections? Do more than wish

At last, the stigma of being perceived as beholden to Arizona’s largest utility company is having an effect on the state’s corporation commissioners.

Perhaps the tail does not always wag the watchdog after all.

Arizona Corporation Commissioners Bob Burns and Susan Bitter Smith are up for re-election next year. They saw how much money poured into independent campaign committees in 2014, much of it presumably from Arizona Public Service. They recently said they’d just as soon APS, the largest utility the commission regulates, stay out of the 2016 campaign. Pretty please.

They can do better. They must.
