A week after Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu escorted GOP presidential hopeful Ben Carson on a tour of the U.S.-Mexico border, a “dark money” group tied to the sheriff has launched to influence the 2016 elections by advocating for greater border security.
The Arizona Security and Prosperity Project, which Babeu will chair, is a non-profit group that under loosened campaign-finance rules is able to raise unlimited amounts of money from anonymous donors to spend on political causes and “educational” advocacy.
