Phoenix’s historic Westward Ho gets a makeover

The historic Westward Ho is getting an uplift, with repairs and upgrades made to kitchen cabinets, floors, fixtures, windows and air conditioning systems in many of its 289 affordable apartments for the elderly.

The work is possible because of a $44 million multifaceted refinancing project.

The 16-story Westward Ho, which is at Central Avenue and Fillmore Street in Phoenix, is a former hotel that was frequented by politicians including John F. Kennedy and celebrities such as Wayne Newton. Built in 1928, it is on the National Register of Historic Places.
