School districts have walked away from closed-door negotiations over their efforts to get more than $1.3 billion they say the state owes in aid, sending the case back to court.
“We didn’t believe that the conversations were being fruitful,” said Chris Thomas, legal counsel to the Arizona School Boards Association.
Thomas said Tuesday he is limited by a court-imposed gag order about what he can say about the talks. But he said the school districts who first filed suit in 2010 — and have won several court battles — believe they were making no progress in getting the money at least one judge has said they are owed.
