The decision by a nearby municipality to end its seven-year relationship with water utility Global Water Resources has caught the attention of individuals in Maricopa who want to do the same.
The Town of Buckeye took on 7,000 new residential and commercial water customers in the deal, which was finalized in July.
Dave Nigh, water resources director for the town of about 50,000 people, told the Maricopa Monitor that the buyout was the best option for Buckeye.
“It was not an overnight decision,” Nigh said. The project has been in the works for more than two years, and stemmed from multiple issues, including the location of Global Water pipes and wells.
