[EDITORIAL] No, tribe, you aren’t ‘entitled’ to casino

With its avenue to riches in the Valley nearly paved — which is to say, with its Glendale-area casino nearly built – the Tohono O’Odham tribe is upset that the Arizona Department of Gaming won’t just roll over and give it the licenses it needs for big-time casino gambling.

“Enough is enough. The (Tohono O’Odham) nation is entitled to some relief now,” said the tribe’s lawyer, Danielle Spinelli, who is in court demanding the state knuckle under.

Well, no. The Tohono O’Odham is not “entitled” to anything. If it wishes to obtain the Class 3 casino license necessary to run games like blackjack and most slot machines, it will have to go the route of proving that entitlement in court. Here, once again, is why:
