Salmon says no to run against McCain

Conservatives who had held out hope that Congressman Matt Salmon would challenge U.S. Sen. John McCain in next year’s GOP primary are out of luck.

The Mesa Republican today officially closed the door on a run against Arizona’s senior senator.

“Mr. Salmon has long said he is focused on doing his job in the House and representing the constituents of Arizona’s Fifth congressional district. He greatly enjoys working for his East Valley constituents and, together with his wife and family, has decided that running for Senate is not something he feels called to do at this time,” Salmon’s campaign said in a statement emailed to Arizona Capitol Times.
