A brief look at what the Tempe City Council has considered banning, limiting or mandating this year.
What was proposed: Banning plastic bags. Tempe flirted with banning retailers from offering plastic bags to their customers. The plan would also have added a ten-cent fee for paper bags.
What happened? While the council was talking about an ordinance, the state Legislature passed a law prohibiting cities and counties from banning plastic bags. Councilwoman Lauren Kuby, who spearheaded the proposed ban, sued the state last month in an attempt to overturn the law.
