The sports pages the past couple days have reported the firing of USC football coach Steve Sarkisian because of his severe drinking problem.
Alcohol is the most commonly used addictive substance in the United States — 17.6 million people, or one in every 12 adults, suffer from alcohol abuse or dependence along with several million more who engage in risky, binge drinking patterns that could lead to alcohol problems, states the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence.
There are nearly 200 liquor licenses for wine and beer only in Phoenix.
Now Starbucks has applied to the Arizona Department of Liquor for beer and wine licenses at 11 Valley locations. It’s new territory for the otherwise wholesome Starbucks.
Seems unnecessary, and there are risks with any liquor-serving establishments: drunk driving accidents; fights, even regrettable hookups.
But after six Bud Lights chased with six Chai Lattes, who knows?
