The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Tempe Democratic Rep. Andrew Sherwood to the state Senate.
Once sworn in, Sherwood will replace former Sen. Ed Ableser, who resigned from his seat representing Legislative District 26 on Sept. 30 to take a position with the Nevada Department of Education.
The appointment creates a new vacancy in the House, where Sherwood has represented LD26 since 2013. LD26 precinct committeemen will be asked once again to nominate three candidates to fill Sherwood’s vacant House seat, and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will again be asked to appoint a new legislator.
