The Pinal County Courthouse on Jason Lopez Circle is in store for its first major expansion since it was completed more than 11 years ago.
Plans call for a four-story, 40,000-square-foot addition on the west side of the existing courthouse, which is expected to meet the courthouse’s needs for more space for the next decade.
The Florence Planning and Zoning Commission approved the project’s design review last month. Because there is no zoning change, the project will not require Town Council approval.
Florence Community Development Director Mark Eckhoff said the expansion had been anticipated in the county’s original site plan and drawings for the courthouse.
The expansion will mean approximately 50 new jobs, which will be added as needed over the next decade, according to a memo from DLR Group architects and engineers to Florence officials.
