Nations Approve Landmark Climate Accord in Paris

Representatives of 195 countries on Saturday evening approved a landmark climate accord that, for the first time, commits nearly every country to lowering planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions to help stave off the most drastic effects of climate change.

Delegates who had been negotiating intensely in this Paris suburb for two weeks were presented with the final draft of the document Saturday afternoon, after a tense morning when the text was promised but repeatedly delayed.
