Open letter to Congress from . . . Tabby the cat

Screen Shot 2015-12-06 at 9.22.35 AMDear Congress:

I know there’s a need to eliminate loopholes in the U.S. Tax Code and to simplify taxes as a whole. But let me propose a tax deduction for my owners and all pet lovers.

My “parents” recently spent more than $1,000 for medical care for one of my littermates because they took us into their home and feel a responsibility to care for us just as any parent would for adopted children.

So, if certain medical expenses for children and adults can be deducted, why not for spending for veterinary care?

Maybe you’d consider a bill that would permit taxpayers to deduct any expenses over $500 for veterinary treatment — $1,000 for large animals — and a $100 deduction for spaying and neutering by a vet.

Unfortunately, many pet owners can’t afford such care for their pets or simply don’t care enough for them to pay a vet. For those who do care, however, they should be given a tax break for being animal lovers.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Tabby (Written by Rose Law Group)
