(NEWS RELEASE) Avondale Mayor Ken Weise will seek election to the City’s top job this August, he announced today.
Weise, who was appointed Mayor in June, 2014, said he is proud of what has been accomplished since he took the job almost two years ago, but noted there are many challenges and opportunities that he hopes to tackle if voters give him a new term this August.
“We have added jobs, attracted more residents, and done what is necessary to keep our neighborhoods safe,” Weise said. “At the same time we have done a good job managing the budget and maintaining city services that are reliable and affordable,” he said.
These accomplishments were no small task, given the effects of the economic downturn. In 2015, Avondale’s efforts to weather the storm were recognized when the city was counted as now having one of the fastest growing economies in Arizona.
“My goal as Mayor is to make sure that we manage growth so that it benefits everyone whether they are new to the community or have lived here their entire lives,” he said. “We need to be welcoming to new families and businesses, but must never forget the people who have shaped Avondale through its history.”
“Growth is good for all of us because it brings new neighbors, new places to work, shop and play and new revenue to improve our parks, streets, and public safety,” he added. “The trick is to make sure our core services like police and fire, streets, water and sanitation can handle the extra demand in a manner that maintains the quality of life we have come to expect by living here.”
Weise said he remains committed to bringing more businesses, jobs and other amenities to Avondale, but only if property values and neighborhoods are preserved as part of the process.
