City officials continue to work toward an updated overall policy document guiding future development that emphasizes protection of Luke Air Force Base, considered one of Glendale’s biggest economic assets, as the municipality’s growth pushes further into its largely undeveloped far western region.
Numerous changes have taken place in that area since the General Plan was updated in 2002, and city leaders are eager to ensure the base, now training home for the Pentagon’s latest generation of military jet fighters, remains safeguarded from projects that would be counterproductive to its operation.
