Democrats unable to alter dark money bill, measure passes

The Senate approved a massive rewrite of Arizona’s campaign finance laws over Democratic opposition on both the substance of the bill and what they said was a total disregard by the Secretary of State’s Office about their concerns.

Secretary of State Michele Reagan is touting SB1516 as an update that cleans up and simplifies Arizona’s campaign finance laws. An amendment by the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Adam Driggs, R-Phoenix, remedied what the Secretary of State’s Office deemed deficiencies in the bill, including a few targeted by Democrats in their own amendments.
