Glendale council questions light rail proposal for downtown

After years of research and studies about a proposed light rail route that would connect Glendale with downtown Phoenix and the East Valley, councilmembers advised city staff to continue researching Valley Metro’s route selection for the city at the March 1 workshop.

Numerous questions were raised, including cost and advantages to having it come to downtown Glendale, which seemed to split the council.

Valley Metro’s recommendation, taken from six original ideas for light rail into downtown, went against the Glendale Community Working Group choice of the system traveling north on 51st to west on Glenn Drive, ending at 58th Avenue.
