Being a nuisance by calling the cops

Tuesday night the Surprise City Council took a step toward settling a high profile court case by nullifying two sections of a nuisance ordinance in municipal code.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed the suit Aug. 27 on behalf of Nancy Markham, a former renter in Surprise. The case argued that the ordinance’s enforcement related to several domestic violence-related 911 calls in 2014 ago nearly caused Markham to be evicted.
