[OP-ED] Who controls our cities — us or the state?

State directives can limit a city’s ability to flourish and create the community that residents want.

I’m a firm believer in diversity and that each of us should have the option to select and create the communities of our choice.

However, some recent developments at the state Capitol make me wonder if we actually have the local control we might think we have.
