The lines between cities and the state were clearly defined in Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton’s state of the city address delivered Tuesday, which also touched on recent economic wins for Arizona’s capital and largest city.
During the speech, which was delivered at the Phoenix Sheraton Grand in downtown, the mayor minced no words in his criticism of the state Legislature and its recent moves to usurp city controls with threats of withholding funding. He said cities provided the leadership to get out of the recession, and called the Legislature ineffective.
