Companies wanting to do business with Tempe no longer can sign a waiver to attest they adhere to non-discrimination policies that include protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees.
Now, they will have to prove it.
An existing Tempe rule has required all contractors to either sign the waiver or produce a copy of a human resources policy showing those protections are in place. Starting June 13, the city won’t give that first option to companies with 15 or more employees. The change won’t affect businesses with fewer workers.
