Despite voters’ approval of Proposition 123 last month, schools are waiting for another legal hurdle before they can receive the money promised by the measure.
This past week, State Treasurer Jeff DeWit asked the state attorney general to weigh in on whether charter schools can receive the new funds.
For larger charter schools such as BASIS Prescott with approximately 700 students, it puts about $150,000 of next year’s budget in question. For a smaller charter school like La Tierra Community School with fewer than 100 students, it’s less than $25,000.
