Six file for three Eloy council openings

There are three city council seats and the mayor’s position open, come the end of the year. Filings along with petition signatures were due to the City Clerk Mary Meyers last Wednesday June 1 by 5 p.m. As of that time there are six people competing for the open spots.

Current City Councilman Augustine Sauceda has his term ending this election cycle but did not file for re-election.
Mayor Joel Belloc has his term ending this election cycle as well, but Belloc is the only person who filed for the Eloy mayor’s election, running unopposed.
3 running for Florence mayor, 5 for town council
Florence Reminder
Three Florence residents are running for mayor and five are running for three open seats on the Town Council.
Mayoral candidates who filed before the June 1 deadline are Gem Cox, Tom Rankin and Tara Walter. Rankin is seeking his third term as mayor and Walter, the town’s vice mayor, is completing her first term on the council.
The council candidates are Storm Cox, Michelle Duron, Bill Hawkins, Kristen Larsen and Karen Wall. Hawkins is running for reelection and Wall, who is completing an unexpired term on the council, is running for her first full term.
The primary election will be Aug. 30. If any town candidate receives votes in excess of 50 percent of the ballots cast, he or she is elected in the primary. The other top-drawing candidates will proceed to the general election on Nov. 8.
