Nine people are vying to fill the vacant Phoenix City Council seat in District 3, an area that includes more than 180,000 residents and several major business corridors in north Phoenix.
Mayor Greg Stanton and council members will hold a special meeting Tuesday to select someone to fill the seat. The post was vacated by former Councilman Bill Gates, who resigned May 31 to run for the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
The council’s pick could have significant political reverberations and could affect the outcome of a July vote to increase homeowners’ property taxes.
