Documents reveal little on reporter background checks for Arizona House floor access

The Arizona House of Representatives, responding to a public records request, released documents on Tuesday regarding how it came to require a criminal background check for reporters and others who wanted access to the House floor. But the documents shed little light on the reasoning behind the move.

The push for background checks came after a raucous day at the state Capitol as lawmakers heard from residents frustrated over a presidential election debacle. But one newspaper saw the move as a vendetta against one of its reporters.
