Businesswoman Christine Jones held a narrow but steady lead for the Republican nomination Tuesday in the safely conservative 5th Congressional District, holding off three others with elective experience and putting her on a possible path to Washington.
Buoyed by a self-financed spending blitz that packaged her as an outsider running against opponents whom she dismissed as “career politicians,” Jones built a modest lead in the four-way race to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon, R-Ariz., in the district that covers the southeast Valley.
