City clerk: Glendale mayoral candidate Mark Burdick broke Arizona campaign law

Glendale mayoral candidate Mark Burdick violated Arizona campaign-finance law earlier this month when he sent out an attack ad directed at incumbent Mayor Jerry Weiers, according to the city clerk, who investigates election complaints.

Campaign mailers that, on one side, featured a black-and-white photo of a frightened child and Glendale crime statistics arrived in residents’ mailboxes on Aug 10. On the reverse side it stated, “Jerry Weiers has failed Glendale public safety putting your family at risk,” in large, capitalized red and white letters scrawled across a photo of the mayor.
