WASHINGTON — Arizona could become the permanent home to 45 F-16 fighter jets and has an even better chance at temporarily landing the jets.
Air Force officials have announced a two-step plan for moving the F-16s from Hill Air Force Base in Utah to make room for the new F-35 fighters being housed there.
Air Force leaders believe they can’t afford to wait until the process for choosing a permanent home is completed for the F-16s because of the dire need to train fighter pilots. So, they will be moved temporarily to sites that already have training units.
