Glendale’s two contested races too close to call

Early, unofficial election returns showed incumbent Mayor Jerry Weiers narrowly leading his opponent, former Glendale Fire Chief Mark Burdick.

Burdick and Weiers each waged expensive campaigns. Burdick spent $79,146 prior to the Aug. 18 campaign-finance reporting deadline. Weiers spent $58,894, but had more than $60,000 left in his war chest going into the last two weeks of the campaign. Burdick only had about $12,500 left.
