O’Connor, McCain unveil new ASU law-school facility in Phoenix

Sandra Day O’Connor, the first female U.S. Supreme Court justice, helps unveil the new Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU’s downtown Phoenix campus.

“You will raise no money for a law school in Phoenix.”

Arizona State University President Michael Crow recounted the consultant’s words Monday evening from a stage inside ASU’s new Beus Center for Law and Society, a building of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law tucked into the core of downtown Phoenix.

It’s not hard to see where the consultant’s skepticism sprang from, with law-school enrollment dropping at a median rate of 18 percent in the top 20 U.S. law schools between 2011 and 2015.
