Scottsdale’s controversial plan to build a multimillion-dollar attraction called the Desert Discovery Center — potentially on desert preserve land — would require voter approval under a proposal from Mayor Jim Lane.
Lane said Thursday he plans to push for an amendment to Scottsdale’s City Charter to require voter approval of any projects over $5 million in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The amendment itself would first require a public vote, which could happen in a special election next spring if other council members sign on, Lane said.
