Walter leads Florence mayoral race; Home Rule favored to win

Tara Walter was far ahead in the race for mayor late Tuesday — but who she will face Nov. 8 was too close to call, with just 30 votes separating Mayor Tom Rankin and challenger Gem Cox. It appeared all five candidates for Town Council will move on to the fall ballot.

Florence’s Prop 411, which restores the town’s Home Rule option, was winning more than 2-1, with 691 votes to 318, according to the Pinal County elections Website.
