Growth issues on ballot, population to play heavily in Peoria election

Population growth is forcing residents to pay close attention to their ballots for this year’s general election, Nov. 8.

The city’s population is about 162,000, based on a mid-decennial census conducted in 2015, a growth of about 5 percent from 2010 to 2015. Additionally, the city has seen the population increase about 50 percent since 2000.

Two tax-related items on the ballot will address keeping up with this growth.
