Mesa light-rail extension work delayed until October

Work on the the $153 million, 1.9-mile extension from Mesa Drive to Gilbert Road was supposed to begin last month.

Construction on the next leg of Mesa’s light-rail line, expected to boost ridership by 4,000 people a day, is delayed until mid-October, according to transportation officials.

Work on the $153 million, 1.9-mile extension from Mesa Drive to Gilbert Road was to begin in August. But as city and Valley Metro officials neared the end of the design process, they identified additional “opportunities to enhance the corridor,” said Jodi Sorrell, Mesa’s transit-services director.
