Petition organizers hope to stave off future possible development of Tempe portion of Papago Park
The Tempe City Council is looking at putting a Papago Park preservation plan to voters.
If the plan is ratified, it would allow for designation of park preserves.
The council, which has looked at the issue in work-study sessions this month and in April, agreed that further action should be taken to protect park grounds. This decision was thanks in part to a petition with more than 1,100 signatures collected by Tempe residents Darlene Justus and Deb Gain-Braley.
