America’s Queen of Speed, an Arizona Hero, U.S. Congressman, and Scottsdale Mayor Set for Honor at World’s Most Interesting Polo Event!
Jason Schechterle, U.S. Congressman David Schweikert, Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane and Valerie Thompson On Tap for The Polo Party First Drops
The 6th Annual Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships is pleased to announce the names of the day’s First Drops for the four polo matches on Saturday, November 5th at WestWorld of Scottsdale.
Similar to the ceremonial first pitch to start a Major League Baseball game, the First Drop is an honor at the beginning of each polo match. Unlike the first pitch, however, the First Drop in a polo match is the first play of the game. It signals that the ball is in action. Past First Drop honorees at The Polo Party include Phoenix Suns legend and current Grand Canyon University men’s basketball head coach Dan Majerle, Olympian and Phoenix Suns player Tyson Chandler, Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, six-time Olympic gold medalist Amy Van Dyken and Chairman and CEO of Scottsdale’s world famous Barrett-Jackson Auction Company Craig Jackson.
Those scheduled for the First Drops, escorted onto the field in beautiful automobiles from Bentley Scottsdale, are:
Jason Schechterle is a retired Phoenix Police Officer, who overcame the impossible when a taxi cab crashed into the rear of his patrol car in 2001. Today, Schechterle does public speaking around the nation, telling listeners his story of tragedy and triumph.
U.S. Congressman David Schweikert is a member of the United States House of Representatives and has served Arizona in this position since 2011. Now in his third term, Schweikert was instrumental in authoring and passing the JOBS ACT into law, which encouraged funding of small businesses, and has been a national leader on tribal policies.
Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane is in his second term as Mayor of the event’s host city.
Valerie Thompson an American motorcycle drag and land speed racer, is known as America’s Queen of Speed. Valerie Thompson races one of America’s fastest BMW S 1000 RR land speed motorcycles. She is a 7-time motorcycle land speed record holder with a personal best top speed of 217.7 miles per hour and is the “Fastest Woman on a Motorcycle.”
