Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep football coach Mark Nolan was fired and athletic director Monica Barrett suspended on Thursday ahead of its appeal hearing Friday afternoon by the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s executive board.
Jordan Rose, an attorney representing a Notre Dame parents group, confirmed the actions that came in a meeting held Thursday between the Phoenix diocese and the AIA’s legal counsel. A letter from Notre Dame Principal Jerry Zander was sent to parents outlining the steps the school took.
Rose said that school president Jim Gmelich will no longer have any affiliation with Notre Dame athletics, academics and extra-curricular activities. Gmelich will remain at the school, but has been reprimanded and will donate a week’s pay to charity. He also has apologized.
